Is it useful to have a GPS system while driving in Costa Rica?

We are looking for a GPS with our rental car. Do you that it is necessary

GPS can be "something" in the exact position, but not in the sense if you know what I mean. You be great if way travel on main roads. Driving in CR is an experience in itself.
