For foreign visitors to the Philippines to those who go without the comfort of their home country does not Western, I recommend staying in the city of Makati.

They occurred on July 27, 2003, when 321 soldiers, rebels hiding in the Ascott Makati, then called Oakwood and November 29, 2007, when 26 officers of the group itself has taken control of the second floor of the Manila Peninsula. Fortunately, the two rebellions were contained in 24 hours and nobody gets hurt.

Makati City is certainly not free of social ills. While several subdivisions of the Philippines are the most exclusive residential here, some sectors are still in ruins, and are settled by squatters living in miserable conditions.

But Makati pros have more than enough to recommend it to travelers abroad.

A great advantage: the city is a site off any vacation. South Luzon Expressway or SLEX begins almost here. This road connects the neighboring provinces of Laguna, Batangas and Cavite, where there are hot springs, beaches and the city Tagaytay resort and temperate high, overlooking Taal volcano and lake. These sites are among the attractions for 40 minutes to four hours away.

Finally, the proximity of the airport to Makati, it is relatively easy to travel around the local flights to any of the other tourist destinations Philippines, as the island of Boracay, famous for its white sand beaches and lively nightlife.
