What is the exchange rate in Costa Rica, and what is the best way Tomak Purchas (credit cards?)?

I live in Costa Rica now. We are up to 500 colones to 1 dollar. It is a bit high, but it is generally about 490 colones. Small cities, add a surcharge if you use a credit card, but not many places will. Just ask before you buy. The most important thing is to be prepared for taxes and gratuities included in your bill. It is rarely necessary to tip, as we do in the United States, to unless the service is very good, then a little extra is good. Tip taxi drivers is good. It is easy to get money from ATMs here, but before you do much, ask your bank about costs withdrawels internationally. This may be an additional expenditure incredible! The other thing is that most everything here is very reasonably priced, with the exception of material that is more mid-range tourist. But good food in restaurants is very affordable. Pura Vida!
