Does Costa Rica have a high rate of abandonment of animals and abuse?

Going to Costa Rica next year with my school I need to know if there are many homeless animals in the streets.

It really depends on where you will see when we go to Costa Rica. If you are in San Jose can see animals in the street, but not much. In most small towns (in particular the villages near the beach) is a lot of dogs "playa". I know that many people are worried about the high number of animals that are homeless, but we must remember they are animals and have no problems of time (ie snow in winter, etc.) that may cause concern in many other countries. There are people who adopt and care for these animals, but they can still run free. When you walk along the beach have been received and accompanied by several dogs and are very friendly, healthy and playful … Believe me not very good with dogs that I … They are very friendly and my stay of one week I made with many friends and follow them and keep them away from the beach. If it is a fear of these dogs you have, I say, do not worry. If a concern for their well-being, you can be sure there are people who do a good job, but I'm sure still a little help. Enjoy your trip and hope to see many animals in Costa Rica, in the street and in the rainforests and beaches. (Keep your eyes open for lazy .. and there are few shelters laziness countries).
